Wasp Nest Treatments

Starting at £55.00 Guaranteed Treatment

During the summer month’s homes and places of work are often under attack from wasp nests.

They can be quite easy to spot, if you see wasps coming and going from one particular spot quite regularly it is more than likely you have a wasp nest.

They can be either in or on a building, or even in the ground.
Not all nests are visible, sometimes you will only see wasp activity and not the actual nest its self, meaning the nest is in the actual fabric of the building or under ground.

DO NOT BLOCK THE HOLE OR ENTRY POINT OF THE NEST

Blocking the hole and trapping wasps inside the nest can be very dangerous. This may cause wasps to chew their way into the house/building or they may find another exit point that can also lead to your property being filled with large numbers of angry volatile wasps.

At the point of spotting a nest it’s advisable to call a professional pest controller to treat the nest.
The nest is often treated with a powerful insecticidal dust that is injected into the nest at high pressure which spreads around the nest and destroys it and the colony over a period of 24 hours.

The nest is quite often left in situ as it becomes the return point, but also the home of the killing agent, the insecticide will kill the queen and colony and any wasps returning later on from foraging.

DO NOT BLOCK THE HOLE OR ENTRY POINT OF THE NEST

Do not attempt to treat a nest yourself as the correct PPE has to be worn aswell as the correct application equipment used to administer insecticide.

Also our insecticide does not excite the wasps whereas most off the shelf DIY products will, resulting in a very angry wasp nest with a high risk of being attacked and stung quite badly.

BED BUG INFO & TREATMENT

Bed bugs are now very common in the UK. An adult bed bug is very visible to the eye and can be the size of an apple pip.

Often found around the lip of a mattress, under the coasters of a bed or even around the back of a headboard. They can also be found on the back of wall hanging picture frames.

The bodies are brown and flat before feeding. Once they have fed on human blood the body will turn dark red and will bulb up and stretch as they are full of blood. Quite often they will secrete blood drops on the way back to their harbourage, something we call dotting. This is another tell tale sign of bed bugs.Bedbugs can lay dormant for quite some time without feeding if there are no hosts to feed on. An adult bug will feed every 3 to 5 days.
They can be picked up from all sorts of places, for instance hotels, hospitals and even on public transport.

If you suspect you may have bed bugs please call us for advise and to book a treatment on 01442 242291

Treatment can be quite exhausting for the customer as a lot of preparation work is involved prior to treating.

We have treatment preparation sheets available to guide you how to prepare for a treatment.

We would advise people not to try and treat bedbugs with off the shelf or internet bought DIY products as quite often the results are futile and you would be wasting money you could put towards a good professional treatment.
Pestech treat bedbugs with extreme steam heat using a specifically designed machine for dealing with bed bugs. Our machine heats the steam up to 180 degrees where as a normal steam machine would only heat up to 100 degrees. Our machine is capable of killing all stages of the bed bug life cycle.

In most cases we would then follow up with a broad spray treatment of highly residual insecticide.

It is not uncommon for follow up treatments to needed.

This can often depend of the magnitude of the infestation.

Cockroach Treatments

Same day service

In the UK we have several species of cockroach.

The most common is the German cockroach which is the smallest of the species.

The female can carry an egg casing known as an ootheca. This special life capsule can carry up to 40 eggs where young insects can be hatched internally into nymphs (baby roaches)

The female will continue to carry the ootheca even after some are hatched inside the casing. When the time comes she will drop the ootheca scattering the young insects.

An infestation can grow quite rapidly over a very short period of time.
Cockroaches are controlled by a special professional use only gel bait formulated not to arouse the roach into thinking its harmful other wise they will not feed. As they feed the gel bait slowly takes action, any dead roaches then become consumed by their peers, and the gel bait has a domino effect clearing an infestation over the duration of several visits required to re bait.

RATS MICE SQUIRRELS & GLIS INFO & TREATMENTS

Same Day Service

It’s quite common at some point you may come into contact with rodents in your home or workplace

If it is rats, 75% of rats carry Weil’s disease passed on from the bladder into the rat’s urine which can be fatal if picked up unintentionally and undiscovered and not treated in time. This is one reason why it is important to deal with rat infestation quite promptly. Obviously the other is the damage they can cause.

TREATMENT

If you suspect you might have rats, do not block any burrows, holes or entry points until you have spoken to a professional pest controller, as these are best left open in order to track their movements and to make baiting or trapping more efficient and successful.
Rats as all rodents are often dealt with over several visits where we would need to determine how or where the rats have entered the premises, carry out a trapping or poisoning program to remove all rodents, whichever is safest and then advise on proofing methods to prevent re infestation.

Sometimes this can be a simple task of blocking any holes in buildings used as entry points.

Although sometimes this can involve placing a stainless steel one way non return valve in the sewer system if rats are entering via a displaced service pipe.

Mice are often common intruders and can be dealt with again using non toxic methods if possible or again using anticoagulants to stop activity.
Proofing methods will also be advised such as vent covers over brick vents etc.

Squirrels can inhabit loft spaces especially in the beginning of the year and sometimes also in the summer months now when they have their off springs. They enter loft spaces to build dreys in the insulation to nest and have their kittens;
it is illegal to re release grey squirrels under The Countryside & Wildlife Act.

We at Pestech can trap & dispatch squirrels efficiently & humanely using a specially designed trap.

Introduced to Tring in around 1912 by Walter Rothschild Glis Glis (edible dormouse) have become a huge problem ever since.
Only mainly active between May and October. During the rest of the year they are in hibernation which also gives them the alternative name “7 Sleepers” due to sleeping for seven months of the year.
Glis can cause lots of unwanted noise and disturbance throughout the night aswell as damage to roof timbers and electric cables running through loft spaces which they will gnaw on to stop their teeth from curling.
Glis must only be trapped under a license issued by Natural England where only certain trapping methods are permitted which Pestech holds a current license to do so.
It is illegal for a home owner to attempt to trap Glis without a license.
Information and current licensing laws can be found on the Gov.UK website.

Ants info & Treatments

Same Day Service

Ants are common intruders during the year.
Black ants can cause quite a problem during spring and summer periods foraging for sweet food sources.

This particular species of ant doesn’t carry any disease however their numbers can be quite considerable.
Numbers can increase during their mating season where flying ants are looking to mate during what we call the nuptial season.
A few other species of ant we now suffer with in the UK are the Pharaoh Ant and the Argentinian Ant.

Our native black ant is a sweet feeder, Pharaoh ants are protein feeders.

The control of these particular ants is completely different to black ants due to the structure of their colony by having multiple queens in a colony where as black ants will only have one queen to a whole colony.

If you attempt to treat the Pharaoh ant with an “off the shelf” product and the ants realise they are under attack from conventional pest products, queens will split from the main colony and create sub colony’s there fore expanding or otherwise known as satelliting and making the problem worse.

These tropical ants need to be treated with a specialist gel bait that disrupts the life cycle of newly laid eggs and reduces the birth rate of new ants slowing the population down gradually to gain control.

This is done over several visits which requires re baiting and monitoring colony activity.

HONEY BEES

Same Day Service

Every year honey bee colony’s will produce new queens.
This is done by the female workers feeding a few chosen egg cells with royal jelly, creating queen cells. Once the new queen hatches she will be the successor of the hive. Her fist job is to run around the hive looking for, and destroying any other queen cells ready to hatch. She will then after a new weeks force the old existing queen out of the hive along with the rest of the flying colony.
The old queen and the flying swarm will go on a long flight with scouts in her flying swarm looking for a new home.

During this flight its not unusual for the queen to stop for a rest, with the swarm gathering over her to protect her. This can happen in your garden where they may hang off the limb of a tree or another structure.

It’s important to gather the bee colony and help to rehive them.
The quicker they are re hived the quicker they will all settle and get the queen laying eggs again which is beneficial to the survival of the colony.
If this is not done in sufficient time the colony may take up residence inside a cavity wall or a chimney of your property.
In some cases if we are lucky they can be extracted and re hived, though this can be very costly. And in other cases they cannot and most likely would have to be destroyed.
So if you see a swarm suddenly appear in your garden anywhere between April and July its best to act swiftly and call us straight away so we can come and remove them safely into a temporary hive, and then hand them on to another bee keeper.
This is still a chargeable service as it is considered a professional service.
WE DO NOT CHARGE THE BEE KEEPERS FOR THE COLONY’S WE GIVE THEM
